New Visual Media program to prepare students for creative careers

Students will learn skills behind digital storytelling, modern photo and video technologies.

Beginning Fall Quarter, Seattle Central College will offer a new Visual Media program to prepare students for creative and technical careers involving videography, photography, multimedia and other disciplines. Incorporating elements of the former Commercial Photography program, this two-year associate degree combines new coursework in video and mobile technologies with an emphasis on hands-on training.

With input from industry leaders, students will focus on multiple areas of study, such as new media, digital imaging, lighting and studio techniques, and portfolio development. Skills emphasized in the program include:

  • Operation of advanced digital still and video equipment
  • Effective community and storytelling with visual media
  • Lighting and composition for digital capture
  • Working in studio and on-location environments
  • Post-production editing

Students who earn the degree will be qualified to fill a variety of visual media careers including photographer, digital media specialist, digital content creator and more.
