Seattle Central poet wins award

Seattle Central student Azura Tyabji has been named the 2018 Seattle Youth Poet Laureate, awarded by Seattle Arts and Lectures (SAL).

SAL partners with the college to bring the poetry series to the Broadway Performance Hall. Tyabji was the opening poet for Danez Smith who performed last week at the performance hall.

Tyabji has performed her poetry a number of times including at the 2018 Youth Speaks Grand Slam. Last year, she was profiled on KUOW and featured on the Seattle Review of Books.
