Portfolio shows feature work by graduating visual communications students

Seattle – Come see the latest in apparel, graphic design, film and video, publishing arts, and photography this year at Seattle Central Community College’s graduate portfolio showcases. Graduating students will display their portfolios at five unique shows occurring June 7-15. These presentations represent the culmination of two years of intensive study in the college’s highly-regarded visual communication and design programs. All portfolio shows are free to the public.

The 20th annual Film and Video Showcase will display FILM AND VIDEO COMMUNICATIONS projects for public viewing Wednesday, June 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Broadway Performance Hall on the Seattle Central grounds. Graduating students will display their work in narrative, documentary, commercials, and public service announcement videos.

Graduating students of the APPAREL DESIGN program will display their work in the program’s 26th annual portfolio show, entitled Ligne (f. a straight or curved geometric element). The show will be held on Tuesday, June 13, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. in room BE2114 (One World Dining Room) on the college campus, 1701 Broadway. In just 11 weeks, the 26 graduating, new apparel designers have applied their technical knowledge, skills, and wit to create an inspired collection of looks. Graduates of the GRAPHIC DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION and PUBLISHING ARTS programs will display their portfolios and projects at a joint show on Tuesday, June 13, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Pravda Studios, 1406-10th Avenue, Suite 200, on Capitol Hill. The Graphic Design show will continue at Pravda Studios on Wednesday, June 14, same hours. The student portfolios include designs for corporate identity, posters, brochures, web site development and design, advertising, annual reports, and illustrations. The Publishing Arts student projects feature high-end, award-winning, two- and four-color print work, including posters, note cards and covers produced by graduating students.

The portfolio show representing the work of students in the COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY program will be held Thursday, June 15, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. at Pravda Studios, 1406-10th Avenue, Suite 200, on Capitol Hill. The show features the work of graduating students, but will include work from first-year students as well.
