Seattle Central Commencement to be held June 17

Seattle – Seattle Central Community College will hold commencement ceremonies Saturday, June 17 at noon at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle.

About 1,000 students will receive associate’s degrees in arts, science, or applied science. Others will receive certificates of completion for specialized vocational programs; some will receive their high school diploma or GED.

The ceremony will be attended by Dr. Charles Mitchell, chancellor of the Seattle Community Colleges District, along with several members of the District’s Board of Directors. Dr. Mildred W. Ollée, President of Seattle Central, will make welcoming remarks. The Seattle Central Jazz Ensemble will also perform.

The commencement address will be given by Hafoc Yates, who is receiving an associate in applied science degree in business information technology. Hafoc is a single mother returning to school later in life after working in the non-profit sector. She has served on the College Planning Council and College wide Information Technology Committee as a student representative.

Instructor Marlene Palazzo was selected to serve as Grand Marshall for this year’s event. Palazzo is a long-time instructor in the Business, Information Technology and Creative Arts division.
