Portfolio shows feature work by graduating students in visual communication and design programs

SEATTLE — The latest in apparel, graphic design, film and video, publishing arts and photography will be featured at this year’s graduate portfolio showcases at Seattle Central Community College. More than 100 graduating students will display their portfolios at three unique shows from June 10 to June 18. These presentations represent the culmination of two years of intensive study in the college’s highly-regarded visual communication and design programs. All portfolio shows are free and open to the public.
The 23rd Annual Film & Video Showcase will display FILM AND VIDEO program projects for public viewing Wednesday, June 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Broadway Performance Hall on the Seattle Central campus, 1701 Broadway. Fifteen graduating students will display their work in narrative shorts, documentaries, corporate videos, public service announcements, and commercials. The formats used include 16mm and Super 8mm film, HD video and standard definition video. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. A reception with the filmmakers follows the show. The 30th annual Apparel Design Final Line Portfolio Show features the fashion collections and portfolios of 22 graduating students of the APPAREL DESIGN program. The show, entitled The Shape of Things, will be held on Tuesday, June 16, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. in room BE1110 on the college campus. The display will feature a range of garments including lingerie, beaded evening wear, rugged outdoor wear, coats and more. This year’s collection includes award-winning designs from students who competed in Seamless in Seattle, Seattle Fashion Week, Project Red Dress, and InspirAsian Fashion Show and Competition. The Seattle Central Creative Academy 2009 Portfolio Show, featuring portfolios and projects created by graduates of the GRAPHIC DESIGN, PUBLISHING ARTS and COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY programs will be on display on the fifth floor of the main campus, Wednesday, June 17, 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 18, 11 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Portfolios from 37 graduating students in Graphic Design feature designs for corporate identity, posters, brochures, Web site development and design, advertising, annual reports, and illustrations. This year’s show includes scholarship award-winning book designs from students who competed in the prestigious Bookbuilders West in California. Students will be honored at the University of California at Berkeley on June 30th.
The Publishing Arts student projects feature high-end, award-winning, two- and four-color print work, including posters, calendars, T-shirts, note cards and covers produced by eight graduating students using the latest publishing software with advanced color computer labs and a full range of digital imaging technology.
Twenty graduating students from the Commercial Photography program will exhibit portfolios which demonstrate a mastery of analog and digital technique plus conceptual artistry, for which the program is nationally known. Their individual work covers a wide range of photographic styles and professional directions from fashion, product, and portraiture, to photojournalism.
