Zachary Robertson Named 2012 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar
Zachary Robertson, a student at Seattle Central Community College, has been named a 2012 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars nationwide, and providing nearly $187,500 in scholarships annually.
As a Silver Scholar recipient, Robertson, 27, will receive a $1,250 scholarship and a special medallion. All Coca–Cola Community College Academic Team Scholars will be listed in an April 23rd issue of the USA TODAY newspaper.
Robertson is a second-year student in the International Studies program at Seattle Central. He is an active student leader and is currently serving as chief executive of Seattle Central’s Associated Student Council, projects coordinator for Seattle Central’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter, Alpha Chi Zeta; and last year served as the chapter’s president. He was also selected this year for the All-Washington Academic Team. The program recognizes and honors the state’s finest higher education students enrolled in Washington’s community and technical colleges. Upon graduation from Seattle Central, Robertson plans to continue his education at Columbia University or the European College of Liberal Arts in Berlin, Germany.
“Being recognized as a Silver Scholar is a great honor for me,” Robertson said. “As I transition to university and beyond, this scholarship and medallion will encourage me to continue pushing toward my goals without limitation.”
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program and recognizes Coca-Cola Community College scholars during All-State Community College Academic Team Recognition ceremonies held in 38 states.
Community college presidents or their designated nominators submitted nominations for this award and an independent panel of judges considered outstanding academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership awards, and engagement in college and community service in the selection process.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1,280 chapters on two–year and community college campuses nationwide. Seattle Central’s chapter is one of the largest and most active Phi Theta Kappa chapters in the nation and has surpassed the $1 million mark in scholarships earned by its members.
