2012 Distinguished Alumni Award Announced

SEATTLE – Cheryl Roe has been selected for the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award by Seattle Central Community College. She is the second recipient of this award which was created by President Paul Killpatrick to honor noteworthy graduates of the college.

Roe, Director of Programs and Development at Skills Inc., Seattle, started her college career at Seattle Central as a single mother and graduated on the Dean’s List. Her Seattle Central college experience inspired her to study political science at the University of Southern California and then earn a master’s degree in non-profit leadership at Seattle University.

Helping others and shaping policy and practices to improve disability employment has been her passion for over 25 years, Roe said, “The ability to make a difference in people’s lives is what motivates me on a daily basis.”

Skills Inc. is a community-based organization that focuses on employing people with disabilities. Roe oversees the group’s vocational programs and services, manages technical services and supervises Skills’ marketing and communications relations and fundraising activities.

She is also a board member of the Community Employment alliance and is Board President of the Bellevue College/Occupational Life Skills Program.
