Graphic Design students win advertising awards

Six students will take home awards in design and layout.

Six students in Seattle Central’s Graphic Design program will be recognized at the American Advertising Awards ceremony on March 16.

Clarita Hinojosa, Wynn Adele, Liz McCarty, Nathaniel Bergstein, Gabriel Herrin, Kristin Lowry (pictured left to right) each submitted work in one of three categories, including Cover Design, Article Layout and Entire Magazine. Submissions are evaluated in a scoring process by a panel of judges who are successful advertising creative professionals.

“Winning this award helped me realize the quality of work that is coming out of this program, which is very impressive,” Gabriel said.

This is the first time in ten years that Seattle Central’s Graphic Design program has submitted student work, according to instructor Jill Vartenigian, who encouraged the students to apply and is proud of their wins.

“Not only does it speak to the students, but it speaks to the quality and effectiveness of our program and Seattle Central,” she said.

The American Advertising Awards, also known as ADDYs, is organized by the American Advertising Federation. The competition is held at the local, district and national level. The students will have the chance to enter the district competition. From there, district winners will compete nationally.
