Political Science Instructor to reflect on Arab Spring for World Affairs Council panel
In 2011, Tunisians sparked a democratic revolution that spread across North Africa and the Middle East known as the “Arab Spring.” Four years later, Arab Spring movements across the region have achieved varied results. Jawed Zouari, Ph.D, Political Science faculty at Seattle Central will explore the how revolutions have played out over the past years in a panel called “Revisiting the Arab Spring” next week. The panel, hosted by the World Affairs Council, will take place on Feb. 3, at 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral.
An expert in Tunisian culture and politics, Zourari will reflect on Tunisia’s successful democratic transition. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2003 to teach courses in international relations, public policy and research methods at the University of Tunis. While in Tunisia, he also conducted research on economic privatization in the country, presented papers in conferences in Cairo and Tunis, and organized a conference on globalization and democratization in North Africa at the University of Tunis School of Law and Political Science.
