The Community’s Table: Seattle Central Community College sets an extra place for dreams, hope and opportunity

SEATTLE — Students who have achieved career and educational success thanks to support provided by generous donors will be the focus of the Seattle Central Community College Foundation’s 14th annual benefit dinner.

The Community’s Table: Setting a Place for Possibility will be held Saturday, March 10, 2007 in the Atrium, Seattle Central Community College, 1701 Broadway.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring Northwest wines and fresh, farm-to-table fare created by students in the college’s Seattle Culinary Academy. A five-course dinner featuring halibut with sorrel, artichoke and gruyere puff pastry, Quillisascut goat cheese-nettle ravioli and red pepper sabayon will be served at 7 p.m.

“In keeping with the season, this re-imagining of our popular Harvest Dinner features a theme of transformation and renewal,” said Megan Bowman, Initiative for Global Development and Foundation Board VP of Events Marketing. “Lifelong learning, retraining and the opportunity to work within a thriving and diverse community transforms the students who attend Seattle Central. Each then goes out into the community and continues the cycle, planting seeds of hope for future students through their success and contributions to society.”

Proceeds from The Community’s Table will support the Seattle Central Foundation scholarship fund, campus-wide tutoring, childcare assistance and instructional areas. This year, the Seattle Central Foundation will award some $500,000 in scholarships to current and future Seattle Central students.

The Foundation’s goal is to raise $125,000 with this event, which includes:

  • Fund-a-Student: Guests will raise their auction paddles in a spirited frenzy to raise funds for student scholarships.
  • Dessert Dash: Lavish confections created by students in the Seattle Culinary Academy will be on display to encourage top bidding. Tables will then select desserts, in order, based on the highest to lowest table bid amount.
  • Raffle: Tickets are four for $100 or a single ticket for $25 and are available for pre-sale in the Foundation Office and during the reception and dinner. Raffle winners need not be present to win and all are welcome to join in the fun.

Dinner is $150 per person. Table, corporate and individual sponsorship opportunities range from $1,500 to $10,000, with various levels of recognition and preferred seating. Major sponsors include SAFECO, The Boeing Company, Evergreen Bank and Washington Mutual.

At 180 maximum, this event sells out each year. For tickets, contact Alison Gooding at (206) 934-5491, or stop by the Foundation office, Seattle Central main campus, 1701 Broadway, room 4180.

The Seattle Central Community College Foundation is a private, 501(c) (3), non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between student need and available resources. The foundation raises funds to support student scholarships; through both endowments and annual gifts, childcare assistance and college-wide free tutoring.
