Students honored nationally

Three Central students plan to improve the lives of the deaf population in Somalia after creating a non–profit organization that grew out of a global health class assignment. Fardowsa Hashi, Jannah Hashi and Amanda Valdez won a “Be the change” Award from the Washington Global Health Alliance for their plan to teach sign language to a marginalized population.

Commercial photography student Cameron Karsten received an International Photography Award and his winning photo is part of a 75–photo exhibit now on display at the Seattle Burke Museum. Over 1,500 photos were entered in this biennial competition.
