Stand Down event serves at-risk veterans

Stand Down, an event organized by the college to help at risk Veterans, served 350 men and women on the Central campus on Sept. 12. More than 65 agencies paired with community and college volunteers to provide social services and information to local Veterans.

In addition to information about housing, medical care and career planning, Veterans received sleeping bags, clothing and groceries. They also received dental check ups, manicures and haircuts, compliments of the college’s cosmetology department. And their pets weren’t forgotten either as the Humane Society brought dog and cat food and other goodies.

This is the second year Seattle Central has sponsored this event as a community service. Stand Downs are held in over 160 cities around the country each year.
