Career with a future: Opticianry

If you are looking for a career where a job is almost guaranteed after graduation, consider the Opticianry Program at Central.  Winter quarter registration for new students starts Nov. 13, and there still are a few openings. Students are accepted into the program in fall and winter quarters, but pre-requisites can be taken any quarter.

Opticians help fit contacts and eye glasses using prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists.  They generally work in medical offices and eyeglass dispensaries or as sales reps for frame or lens companies.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that job growth in this field will be 29 percent in the next ten years, which is higher than the average for all occupations.  With an aging population, led by the Baby Boomers, the need for eye care will only increase!

The Opticianry program runs seven quarters and Central is the only college in the State that offers an A.A.S. degree and prepares students to take the state licensing exam.  Details: http://seattlecentral.edu/programs/opticianry/
