Campus to host Science Olympiad

“The science fair projects of today could become the products or businesses of tomorrow,” President Barack Obama said during last year’s White House Science Fair.

That quote is an inspiration to the 500 students who will compete in the Northwest Regional Science Olympiad Tournament on March 1, at Seattle Central Community College. The interactive event runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with competitions starting at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow in the Mitchell Activity Center, 1718 Broadway.

At least 34 middle and high school teams will compete for prizes in 50 different events that involve applying math and science skills to design, build and operate projects that fit into specific categories.

Competitions will be held on the main campus in the Science and Math Building (SAM), Broadway Edison (BE) and the Mitchell Activity Center (MAC). A complete schedule of events and locations will be available at the first floor registration table in the Broadway Edison Building, 1701 Broadway. The event is free and open to the public.
