Seattle Central students attend annual legislative rally in Olympia
Seattle Central President Paul Killpatrick sent some rallying students off in the pouring rain before they boarded buses to Olympia.
On Feb. 5, around 70 Seattle Central students piled into buses headed toward Olympia to join hundreds of their peers from 34 community and technical colleges around the state for an annual rally at the capital. The students gathered to raise awareness of a number of key issues facing campus and the community and technical colleges system as a whole.
During the rally, students heard from guest speakers and fellow students. They also had the opportunity to visit with local legislators, including House Speaker Frank Chopp, who represents the state’s 43rd legislative district, where Seattle Central College is located.
While the rally is held each year, this is the first year that Seattle Central College sent student representatives. Student Advocacy Committee under campus Student Leadership, recruited students and organized the logistics of the all day-event.
