Seattle Central names permanent advising director
Bill Spence was recently named the permanent director of Advising, after working in an interim capacity for over two years. In addition to his responsibilities during his interim period, Spence will oversee the Career Center, Co-Operative Education and Service Learning.
“During the interim position, I was able to see if I liked the role and the new responsibilities,” Spence said. “I enjoy working with students and taking my experiences to work at a different level.”
Along with a new director, Advising will see changes such as a merge with the Career Center to streamline best practices to help students who are unsure of their career and program goals. Advising and Career Center staff will also be cross-trained.
Before transitioning over to Advising, Spence worked in the Registration office and in the Workforce Education department. Prior to Seattle Central, he spent eight years working at Transportation Choices Coalition, a non-profit focused on providing Washington state residents more opportunities for commuting.
Spence earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and is working toward a master’s degree in adult education and training from Colorado State University.
