Construction on new Marine Technology Center advancing
Construction of SMA’s new Marine Technology Center is progressing on schedule. The first phase, which involved extensive preparation to stabilize the ground, was completed in June. Bids have been received for the building construction phase, and a contract will be awarded this month. Construction will begin this summer and continue for approximately 12 months.
The new facility will be a valued addition to the Ballard waterfront. At 22,000 square feet, the facility will include new classrooms, laboratories and simulation capabilities. The additional capacity will enable the academy to expand its existing Marine Engineering Technology and Marine Deck Technology programs, as well as develop new courses and programs to support the maritime industry and recreational boating communities.
