The four categories are: fiction, one-act play, personal essay, and poetry. Student winners at the local District level advance to the national competition. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 19. To be eligible, students must submit a fully completed application form as well as their entry on BOTH hard copy (to the campus coordinator’s office) AND in e-version (emailed to the campus coordinator as a Word attachment).

Last year, Audrey Ackerman, South Seattle Community College, won second place nationally for her play “Close to the Son” and James K. Smith, also from South, won second for his short story “Elf-Kicker.” The Seattle Community Colleges District has garnered first and/or second places in the last five national competitions, and this year promises more winners.
