President Barack Obama recently announced millions of dollars in new funding to improve math and science education across the country in order to keep Americans competitive for the future.
Meanwhile in Seattle, 400 students are already using their math and science skills to compete in the 5th annual Northwest Regional Science Olympiad Tournament on March 2, at Seattle Central Community College. The interactive event runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with competitions scheduled from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. An awards ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. in the Mitchell Activity Center, 1718 Broadway.
At least 30 middle and high school teams will compete for prizes in 45 different events that involve using math and science skills to design, build and operate projects that fit into these multiple categories. The events will be held in the Science and Math building (SAM,) Broadway Edison (BE) and Mitchell Activity Center (MAC), all buildings on the main campus. A complete schedule of events will be available at the first floor Registration Table in the Broadway Edison Building, 1701 Broadway.
