“Spring into Central” Open House Showcases College Programs and Services

Seattle Central Community College hosts Spring into Central on Tuesday, May 24th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This free event will be held on the main floor of the Broadway Edison Building, the college’s main campus, located at 1701 Broadway. Nearly 40 informational booths will showcase the many educational, career- training and student involvement opportunities available at Seattle Central. Free parking will be provided along with campus tours, light refreshments, prizes and live jazz.
Representatives will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about Seattle Central’s university transfer degree options, Bachelor in Applied Behavioral Science degree, plus career training opportunities in more than 30 professional and technical programs. In addition to these instructional programs, various student services such as registration, advising and financial aid will be available to answer questions and help students prepare for getting a start at Central.
For those interested in starting a new career or returning to work, Seattle Central’s Worker Retraining program provides job-related training and career development services to eligible members of Washington’s workforce. Participants are invited to stop by the Worker Retraining booth to help determine eligibility.
Students who need flexibility in when and where they study can find out more about Central’s online and distance learning programs and classes. Whether the course is online, by correspondence or via video or DVD, students can learn at times that are convenient.
Seattle Central offers Adult Basic Education, GED (including GED classes taught in Spanish) and English as a Second Language (ESL) through its Basic and Transitional Studies program. Translators will be on hand throughout the event to help non-native speakers in Spanish, Chinese, and Somali.
Learn more about certificate programs such as Entrepreneurship, Grantwriting, Streaming Media Technology & Business, Sustainable Building, plus a wide range of non-credit classes by dropping by the Community Education Program booth.
High school students who would like to get a head start on their college education will want to check out the Running Start program booth. Central offers other high school programs such as Tech Prep which enables students to get college credit for approved high school classes plus a high school completion program which provides students with opportunities to complete a diploma.
Seattle Central prides itself on its vibrant and diverse mix of activities and programs for students. Representatives from Student Leadership, and various student activity clubs, will help students explore the myriad of campus life opportunities.
