Education advocate honored with statewide equity award
Molly Mitchell, Seattle Central’s director of Student Support Programs, recently received the Association of College Trustees (ACT) Equity Award.
Nominated the by Seattle Colleges Board of Trustees, the award recognizes exemplary commitment to achieve equity in the development, administration and delivery of educational programs and services in the community and technical college system.
“Molly’s work and her drive to bring equity to Seattle Central speaks volumes about what the Seattle Colleges stand for,” Seattle Colleges Board of Trustees Chair Louise Chernin said.
Mitchell oversees various student support programs including AmeriCorps Benefits Hub, Re-Entry/Prison Education, Student Veteran Support and more.
“Molly’s passion for racial justice and equity is only matched by her hard work to ensure that Seattle Central students succeed,” President Sheila Edwards Lange, Ph.D., said. “She listens to students and works with grassroots and community groups to make our college more responsive to student needs.”
Mitchell will be recognized later this month at the ACT Awards dinner at Walla Walla Community College.
