College names new dean
Former Central Washington professor Laila Abdalla will lead the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences division
Seattle Central has named Laila Abdalla, Ph.D., as the new dean of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Division. In this position, Abdalla will oversee the newly restructured division, which now includes the Apparel Design and Graphic Design departments following an instructional reorganization last year. She begins her new position on Oct. 16.
Abdalla previously served as an English professor, associate dean of Graduate Studies, interim graduate dean and chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Central Washington University (CWU). While at CWU, she also participated actively in curriculum development, strategic planning, budget management, assessment and recruitment efforts. In 2011, CWU honored her with the Distinguished Professor of Teaching award.
Abdalla earned her doctorate, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from McGill University, in Montreal, Canada.
