Halloween REVIVAL Market
This Halloween, Seattle Central teamed up with the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict to support their REVIVAL Market Street pop-up at the Capitol Hill Station Plaza.
The EcoDistrict is a community-driven organization dedicated to improving resiliency, equity, and vibrancy in Seattle. Their REVIVAL Market aims to support small businesses, activate spaces, and amend many of the socioeconomic harms caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. REVIVAL alleviates financial burdens on these businesses by offering stipends, event rentals, marketing promotion, and professional photography to vendors.
The market also aims to showcase and support local Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ businesses. Vendors included a variety of local artists, artisans, and community organizations from Capitol Hill and beyond. EcoDistrict’s own booth featured a wall of ideas for the community’s future — a myriad of plans for infrastructure, programs, and shared spaces—and encouraged attendees of the market to vote on which they liked best and elaborate with Post-it notes.
A wide variety of Capitol Hill residents — from families, to young students, to seniors — wandered through the market to grab some artisan goods, sip on hot, homemade cider, and contribute their feedback to the EcoDistrict’s ideas for the neighborhood revitalization.
At the Seattle Central table, Associate Director of Community Relations Michelle McBreen and Communications Consultant Alex Hughes from the Marketing and Communications team handed out Seattle Central swag and Halloween-themed temporary tattoos, which were just as popular with adults as they were with children.
Little ones grabbed Tiger beanies to stay warm, and their parents nabbed mini–Seattle Central flashlights to clip onto their keychains. Market attendees of various ages approached the tent to ask questions about Seattle Central events like Community Dinner, how to enroll in Continuing Education classes, and how to stay involved in the Seattle Central community.
The REVIVAL Market is not Seattle Central’s first collaboration with EcoDistrict, and will be far from the last. The college’s growing relationship to the organization highlights its broader efforts to invest in meaningful community partnerships and establish itself as a cornerstone of the neighborhood.
